Social signals like shares are crucial for any blog’s success as Google and other search engines greatly value real users’ engagement. You’ve crafted an amazing, conversational and valuable blog post, and now you are ready to let it into the world. But are you sure the content will encourage people to share your posts?

If you think about it, there are few types of content that people usually want to share on social media, and this includes:

Content that is personal and practical.

Which means the things directly apply to our lives.

All people want to talk about themselves (hopefully in moderation). Studies have shown neurons lighting up like fire when we talk about us and relate stories to our own lives. So use this opportunity to ask your followers to share and add something personal and practical too.

Topics they understand and can explain easily.

We are much more likely to share something if we understand the topic, the context, and can easily explain it to others. After all, you need to be able to discuss the link if someone comments. Right?

Know at the start what and how you want to communicate with your audience, get rid of unnecessary wording, be clear, concise and to the point, and format the content to minimize clutter. Make it easy for your readers to understand your message, and they’ll return the favor by sharing your posts.

Controversial content, but backed-up with quality.

Last year Upworthy posted a great defense to their headlines and overall content, showing how their controversial approach and writing style, but also their super-sharable quality content, have helped them reach 87 million monthly visitors, up from 5 million at the start of the year, though the site is less than two years old.

See if you can also apply this tactic with your content, but make sure your statements are always backed-up, – then everyone will want to share your links.

Upworthy posts don’t go viral because people click — Upworthy posts go viral because people share.

What type of content do you personally share? Do you have some other tactics to suggest, to make the content we create more shareable? Tell us in the comments below.
