An author, editor, and prolific blogger, please give a warm welcome to the truly motivational Nikki Novo and her incredibly comforting and inspiring guest post!
Remember how enthusiastic you were when you first started blogging? You were nervous, but the excited kind. Most of us start blogging with the dream of sharing a message or sometimes just as a means to express our creativity. The desire was simple.
But as we fall in love with the craft, we start to understand that this practice might actually be bigger than just a hobby. We begin to imagine leaving our full-time job or penning our first book. Before we know it, our daydreams have turned into goals. And inevitably, the quest turns into anxiety.
The self-inflicted pressure, unfortunately, is expected. Rather than trying to fight it and pronounce it as a bad thing, I’ve found fear is best behaved when it is embraced. Before accepting it, we have to acknowledge it. If you can’t spot your own fears just yet, take a tip from these universal doubts most bloggers feel at some point in their careers.
3 Doubts All Bloggers Have
- Will I ever make enough money?
For most of us, success is measured by the amount of money we bring in. So if we’re not earning what we think is a decent amount, we can quickly feel like a failure. For this reason alone, so many of us just want to throw in the towel. But truth is, money cannot be the only measurement of success, especially when you’re first starting out.Logically, you know that blogging is a marathon and not a sprint. It’s your ego that tells you otherwise. Reaching a place in your blogging business where you feel completely financially stable takes patience, focus, clarity, faith, and passion. You can’t just have one. You need them all.Once you have clarity of message and a passion for a niche you’d like to serve, it’s time to get focused. After that focus comes, you’ll need patience, because time will always be a factor in blogging. In order to remain patience, you’ll need faith—faith in yourself and your calling. - Will I ever be able to catch up? In blogging, you’re always going to find someone who is further along than you are. She may have better graphics, better photos, better writing, or even more of a social media presence than you do. The trick is to not compare yourself with others. That energy we spend on worrying about other people’s progress can be spent on our own progress. Where is your time best spent? On you, right? I thought so.
- Is my writing or content good enough?
In life, we need to know our strengths, but we also need to know our weaknesses. Sometimes, the weaknesses are worth working on, but sometimes you just have to outsource that sucker. It’s completely normal to feel insecure in certain areas of our blog business. And many times it’s not low self-esteem. We’re just acknowledging that we can do better. When you’ve decided where you can improve, the first question to ask yourself is, “Do I want to strengthen this weakness? Is it something I enjoy, and is it worth it to me?” Sometimes, you’ll say yes. Yes, I want to learn to be a better writer. That’s when you sign up for courses and mentorship. And then there are other times where you may think, “Nope, I have no interest.” That’s okay. Allow yourself that freedom. When I realized my photos and graphics were not of the same quality of my writing, I decided I wanted to outsource them rather than get a little bit better at something I was really bad at doing.
So, have no shame. It’s always your call, because you’re the boss, lady.
